Today we celebrated and mourned Gaetano. It was wonderful and healing to be around so many others who loved him and were loved by him.
I don't have the words to adequately express my sadness, or the sheer unfairness, of losing him. It was my privilege to get to know him over the last two years, and our special relationship meant the world to me. He will always have a place in my heart; his positivity, tenacity, passion, and big heart will always stay with me.
Here are a few of my favourite photos of him which showcase his best features: his kindness, his sense of humour, and his smile. Sogni d'oro, Gaetano.

Spent my birthday doing lovely things, reflecting, and enjoying and being grateful for all the great things in my life.

This morning, I ran my first 5K race. Last night, I heard that a person very dear to me had passed away after a hard battle with cancer.
Although devastated, and with my birthday around the corner, I realize more clearly than ever before what a blessing and a privilege it is to be healthy and able. That realization helped get me out of bed and running this morning, and maybe - in a small way - pay tribute to my positive, tenacious, athletic, and wonderful friend Gaetano.
I'm so grateful for @brandoncanu, who has been so thoughtful, understanding, encouraging, and stuck by me at my slower pace. #hintonburg5K
