The war in Ukraine continues; the devastation grows. I’m so grateful for all the support and solidarity shown across the globe, and share this video to perhaps inspire and encourage you all to do more still.

“Arkan for Ukraine”
Carissa Klopoushak, violin/voice
Lara St. John, violin
Matt Herskowitz, piano

I was invited by the one-and-only Lara St John to join her and Matt Herskowitz to record this rendition of Пливе кача по Тисині (Plyve Kacha) and Аркан (Arkan). Plyve Kacha is an old Lemko-Ukrainian folk song which took on new life as a requiem of sorts, mourning the loss of unarmed protestors in Kyiv during the 2014 Maidan Revolution of Dignity. The lyrics are a dialogue between a mother and her son going off to war. Arkan is a traditional dance of the Carpathian Hutzul region of Ukraine, danced around a bonfire – a rite of passage for young men becoming warriors.

In this spirit, I share this performance as a call to action. The people fighting in Ukraine are ordinary folks from every walk of life. What hangs in the balance is MUCH more than just the sovereignty of one state.

Please share. Please donate. Please write to your government to demand a #NoFlyZone over Ukraine. Thank you to all who have donated and volunteers and continue to do so. This is a marathon, not a sprint. #СлаваУкраїні #StandWithUkraine 🇺🇦❤️🇺🇦
